Adobe® Illustrator® CS5 software is a comprehensive vector graphics environment with new transparency in gradients and multiple artboards that invite you to explore more efficient ways to design.

Vector images are scalable and are resolution independent, which means you can re-size a graphic from business card size to billboard size without losing its high quality.

A single file can encompass multiple outputs.

New multiple artboards allow you to manage an entire project within a single file. With up to 100 artboards varying in size, common elements such as colors, type, and symbols can be quickly updated all at once across all project components. The timesaving benefits are supported by independent research.

Illustrator also lets you create assets that can easily be distributed to different media: print, web, interactive, video, and mobile.

New Features for CS5

The lastest version of Adobe Illustrator, Illustrator CS5, was released in October 2008 with a variety of new features.

  • Multiple Artboards allows users to create a file with up to 100 different sized art boards, which can be displayed side by side or stacked. These artboards can then be saved, printed, and exported independently or together.
  • Users can now use Gradient Transparency to adjust the opacity of an object within a gradient to gradually reveal what lies beneath an object.
  • The Blob Brush Tool uses the paintbrush to sketch and then generate clean vector shapes, even when a single stroke may overlap. This allows user to draw naturally, and use the eraser tool more intuitively.
  • Interactive Gradients can be manipulated and edited directly on the artboard. Users can adjust the size, angle, position, and eliptical dimensions using sliders and generating immediate feedback.
  • You can now edit object characteristics in the Appearance Panel, allowing you to adjust fill, stroke, and other effects within the same panel to generate faster results.
