Adding a formula to the D2L gradebook

WSU Faculty teaching in a traditional, blended, online, or ITV environment.

Overview

Formula Grade Items are a useful to faculty who would like to create custom formulas to grade users automatically based on other times within the gradebook.

For example you could give studenst who received at least 50% on all participation grade items a perfect attendance bonus. IF{ MIN{ [P1.Percent], [P2.Percent] } < 50, 0, 1

Note:

  • Formula Grade Items cannot belong within a Category.
  • All Items that you plan on using in the formula should be created before the Formula Items is created.
  • If you want the Formula Grade Item to be included in the Final Calculated Grades you will need to use a Formula based grading system.

Creating Formula Grade Item

1. From the Assessment menu select Grades and enter Manage Grades.

2. Select the New button and choose Item and choose Formula as the item type.

3. Name your formula grade item and provide the maximum points.

4. Click Edit Using the Formula Editor to set up your calculation formula. See Creating a formula in the Grades Formula Editor for more details on this editor and the way to define your formulas.

5. Click Save and Close button.
