This documentation will cover accessing course1, studentwebs, and StudentClubs web space via Adobe Contribute CS3 for editing.

Setting Up Access

Due to some changes on how files are stored on our servers for campus, there is a new way to access these files. Formerly we used FTP, but due to security issues with that system, we are moving away from FTP to DFS (Distributed File System). Accessing your storage area is different on a Mac and a PC so skip to the section appropriate for you for instructions. This document covers using Contribute CS3.

PC

Once inside Adobe Contribute, the first step is to go to Edit then down to My Connections. This will bring you to a window showing all the connections you have setup in Contribute. To set up a new connection go to Create at the top of this menu. A window will open, hit next to start the wizard. It will then ask if this is a website or a blog, select website and fill in the web address of your site using the guide below, do not include the <>.

Course 1 = http://course1.winona.edu/<StarID>
Student Webs = http://studentwebs.winona.edu/<StarID>
Student Clubs = http://studentclubs.winona.edu/<club directory>

Once done, select Next and then select “Local/Network” as the method of connecting to this web server. It will then display a box asking for the path to the website. Use the next table as a guide for this.

Course1 = \\winona.edu\dfs\Employees\Web_Course1\<StarID>
Student Webs = \\winona.edu\dfs\Students\Web_StudentWebs\<StarID>
Student Clubs = \\winona.edu\dfs\Community\Web_StudentClubs\<club directory>

Finally, it will ask for your name and E-mail address. Enter those in, hit Next and then Done and you are now all set for editing your web page.

Mac

Before we can begin setting up the connection we must establish a connection to the webstore. To do this go to your desktop and click on Go and then Connect to server. In the box type in “smb://webstore.winona.edu/WebStore” and hit Connect. You will need to make this connection every time you want to update the website with Contribute.
