Changing Your Existing Outlook Settings

If you previously setup Outlook and now need to sign in with your, you will have to setup a new Outlook profile. Once this is done you can go on to the next section.

Starting Outlook

To make sure you have Microsoft Office installed on your computer go to your Start menu > click on All Programs > navigate to Microsoft Office 2016.

  • If you do not see Microsoft Office 2016 then follow these instructions to install Office 2016 your computer.

Setting up Outlook 2016/Accessing Shared Mailboxes

  • To open, Click the start button at the lower-left corner of the screen.

  • The start menu will then appear on your screen. Click Outlook 2016.


  • You will see the setup wizard. Click Next.

  • The setupwizard will ask you, Do you want to set up Outlook to connect to an email account? Check Yes and Click Next.

  • The wizard should automatically recognize your email. To setup Outlook you'll need to change this to if you're a student and if you're an employee or a student employee. Click Next when the information is accurate.

Note: If you are setting up a shared mailbox for a desk account just Click Next. You do not have to change the pre-populated email address.

  • A Windows Security window will appear once a network connection has been established.

If you are using Outlook to access a student mailbox, type in the top box and your StarID password in the bottom box.

If you are accessing an employee mailbox, a student employee mailbox, or a shared mailbox, enter in the top box and your StarID password in the second box, then Click OK.

    • You will be able to Click Finish once all 3 rows have been checked.
      • If you do not see the Finish tab available, click on revert to return to the previous steps, If you are unable to get your account setup, notify the Technical Support Center @ 507-457-5240.

Note: If accessing a shared mailbox via a desk account remove the pre-populated desk account email address from the Windows Security pop-up and replace it with your ( Ex: and your StarID password. Then Click OK

  • It may take Office several minutes to set up if this is the first time it is being opened.


  • You should see Outlook open to your inbox. Depending on the amount of email in this account, it may take a moment for all of the mail to populate.

  • Congratulations! You now have access to your Outlook 2016.
