About this article
This article includes instructions for accessing your OneDrive for Business using your favorite web browser. It is intended for students and employees.
Where is your OneDrive for Business?
Your OneDrive for Business is a 1 TB storage folder located in the cloud, which is a geeky way of saying it's located on a Microsoft network server somewhere off campus that you can access via the Internet. Given that your OneDrive for Business exists in the cloud, it makes senses that one way to access it would be using a web browser on a device connected to the Internet.
What browsers can you use?
You can use your favorite browser from on or off campus to access and manage your OneDrive for Business. The only current exception is that you cannot use Google Chrome to access it while on campus. You can access it using Chrome while off campus. The explanation is too long and boring for words and we hope it gets resolved soon. Until then, use Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer to access your OneDrive for Business while on campus.
How to access your OneDrive for Business using a browser
Open your browser and navigate to WSU's home page. Go to either the Current Students or Facutly & Staff eHome page.
Select the OneDrive @ Winona State University link on the banner
Another way to get to your OneDrive for Business:
- Open your browser and navigate to http://sky.winona.edu
- Select OneDrive for Business under either the Students or Employees heading (Figure 1)
- If prompted, login with your WSU username (e.g., jsmith123) and password
- The first time you access OneDrive for Business, it will take a minute or two to configure your directory. When the page loads, it will look something like Figure 2.
- Note that the top menu bar will have a pointer to OneDrive. The other menu choices will differ for students versus employees. Figure 2 depicts the student view. Students should recognize the Outlook choice. Selecting it takes students to their email mailbox. Employees do not use this Office 365 version of email, so that choice is not available. Selecting OneDrive always returns you to your OneDrive for Business.
Finding files
Search for files by entering keywords, file names, etc. in the Find a file search field (Figure 2). Recently-opened files will be listed on the left sidebar, along with several default search filters:
- My Documents - Select to list all of your folders and files
- Followed Documents - Select to list documents that you are following, such as files shared by a classmate, group member, or professor
- Shared with Me - Select to list others' folders and files that have been shared with you
Tablet access
You can access your OneDrive for Business using the browser on your tablet. However, if you have an iPad and/or iPhone, you will much prefer using the OneDrive for Business iOS app and the iOS apps for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Apps for Android devices are in development.
