Assessing ePortfolios

Intended Audience

WSU instructors currently using Brightspace and interested in using electronic portfolios in their Brightspace courses.

Overview

This article describes the steps involved in using the Brightspace ePortfolio tool to assess portfolio content.

Assessing the ePortfolio content

The first step in assessing ePortfolios is configuring the item to be assessed.

  1. From the ePortfolio Dashboard, select My Items.
  2. Click the context menu (the little arrow after the name) for the item you want to update for assessment and select Edit.
  3. Update the permissions on the item and then select Add Rubrics. Attach the desired rubric. (You need to create the rubric ahead of time. It cannot be created at attachment time.)
  4. Click Save and Close.

Next, share the item with the desired user(s).

  1. Select the context menu after the name of the item you just updated. The context menu is displayed by clicking the little arrow after the name.
  2. Select Share from the context menu.
  3. Click Add Users and Groups.
  4. Search or browse to find the users. Set Add Assessments for each of the users and user groups.

Make Items Assessable by Others


Finally, the item can be assessed using the attached rubric.

  1. From the ePortfolio Dashboard, select the Shared Items filter.
  2. Click the context menu (the little arrow after the name) for the item you want to assess and select View.
  3. In the assessment section, click Add Assessment.
  4. Select the appropriate rubric and complete it for the ePortfolio item.
  5. Click Save and the assessment is posted for the owner of the ePortfolio.
