==What is VPN?==

A Virtual Private Network, otherwise known as a [[VPN]], can connect a WSU laptop to the WSU Local Area Network (LAN) through a third party Internet Service Provider (ISP). A VPN connection enables users to access network resources at the University such as personal storage, class storage, and certain web-based applications. The data is encrypted to preserve security.

If you are off campus, and you need to access a WSU network resources, follow these instructions:

# Connect to the internet.

# On a PC use the search tool - search for Cisco AnyConnect

# On a Mac - Applications folder - Cisco AnyConnect Client

# Once the application is open, a connection called "wsu" will already be set up.  Click that once, then choose "Connect"

When prompted, type in your current StarID and password and click "ok"

You are now virtually connected to the Winona [[network]].

*Windows 7 - Use the Windows Key and select  Click to Map Network Drives in the left-nav

*Windows 8 - use the Tile for Map Network Driver

*Mac - you will use the Finder.  From the menu bar select ''Go>Connect to Server''.  It will open a dialog box in which you can enter the path for the server you want to connect to.
