About this article

This article includes a checklist for those who are returning their old laptops. It is intended for students and employees.

Overview

Please review this checklist before you arrive to turn in your old laptop. Note that not all of these checklist items may apply to you and there will not be time to do any of these things during your exchange session. Backups must be completed before you arrive. If you have any questions, please consult the articles listed below. We would also be happy to help you learn how to backup your data in person. Employees should contact TLT (tlt@winona.edu) and students should contact Technical Support (techsupport@winona.edu) with any questions

Checklist

I have backed up all of my personal data stored on my old laptop's hard drive (e.g., documents, pictures, video, music).

I have either backed up any personal files I saved to my laptop's "desktop" or confirmed that I don't have any files on my desktop.

I have either exported and backed up my bookmarks/favorites for each browser that I use (e.g., IE, Firefox, Chrome) or confirmed that I don't need to do this.

I have either backed my Outlook mail archive (.pst) files or confirmed that I have never archived my mail on my old laptop.

I have either backed up my KeePass password database or confirmed that I have never used KeePass on my old laptop.

I have either backed up my Microsoft Office templates (Users/username/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Templates) or confirmed that I don't have any such templates on my old laptop.

I have created a list of software that I will need to re-install (i.e., Adobe Acrobate Pro, SPSS, JMP) on my new laptop.

I have located my old laptop's power cord.
