Professor Andrea Wood is using Hypothes.is to provide a common space to discuss and define key concepts on articles the class is reading together. This tool allows you to both highlight content and annotate (i.e. comment on the article) both privately and publicly to anyone who has the URL to this article. In our class time we will work on installing the tool and then use it to comment on The dead and the quick article.

What's Hypothesis?

This article provides an overview of the features and functions of the Hypothesis annotation tool. Hypothesis (see https://web.Hypothes.is) is an extension tool for your Internet browser that allows you to annotate sentences, take notes, critique news stories, blogs, articles, books and any other text online.

How do I start using Hypothesis

The following steps take you to the walk you through the process of signing up for a Hypothesis account. It is strongly recommended that you use Chrome browser with this tool.

1. Go to https://web.hypothes.is/start and enter a username, email address, and password.

2. Next, select the install add-on for Chrome link.

3. You will be challenged allow this extention within Chrome by selecting Add extension button.

How do you use Hypothesis?

We are only demonstrating the Hypothesis tool in Chrome as it integrates much more cleanly for this project. In the video you will learn how to activate the tool on a page and use it to both annotate and highlight.
