"Drag and drop" or "dragging and dropping" refers to clicking on an icon or file, holding down the mouse button, moving the file to another location with the mouse, and then letting go of the mouse button. It is a common method for backing up data onto things such as flash drives or external hard drives.

Tips and Tricks

There are some useful keyboard shortcuts during this process.

PC

  • Ctrl+A - Select all items
  • Shift+Left Click - Selects items between one item and the item shift clicked on.
  • Ctrl+Left Click - Adds or removes an item from a selection.

Mac

  • Cmnd+A - Select all items
  • Shift+Left Click - Selects items between one item and the item shift clicked on.
  • Cmnd+Left Click - Adds or removes an item from a selection.
