Meet the Faculty Member

Dr. Nicholas Wysocki completed his undergraduate work at Western Illinois University and his graduate work at the University of Iowa. His area of expertise is the social foundations of education. He has been a part of travel study experiences to Puebla, Mexico; Montgomery, Alabama; and St. Paul, Minnesota. He has also worked on the development of clinical experiences with the Miller Mentoring program and serves on the Diversity Council in Rochester, MN.

Segment Descriptions

  1. Where did the idea for the digital ethnography begin? Nicholas introduces where the idea for the digital ethnography came from and begins to describe how it allows a student to reflect, document, and share their diverse experiences in the classroom.
  2. Could you talk specifically how a student would build their Digital Ethnography? Nicholas explains that the digital ethnography needed a platform for students to organize, document, integrate, and store their data and reflections from this experience and WordPress is the tool they utilizes for this assignment.
  3. What are some of the precautions or guidelines you put in place for this project? In this segment Nicolas explains the measures put in place for the student data that is uploaded as a part of this project.
  4. Could you describe the key learning outcomes of the digital ethnography? Reflection, respond, and advocacy are the core goals for the department and this assignments is designed to provide a student an authentic way (i.e. in their own written, video, photo, and audio reflections) on preconceptions of teaching.
  5. Could you describe the role TLT and our DLC Stars play in this assignment? Nicholas describes the role TLT and our DLC Stars play in assisting his student learn how to build the site and integrate the media being used for this assignment.
  6. What would you recommend to other faculty who are considering doing the digital ethnography in their own classes?In this segment Nicholas describes an iterative process he affords himself as he continually reflecting on the assignment and the larger outcomes he desires for his students.
