Malwarebyteslogo.png Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is an anti-malware and internet security software that is provided to all WSU employees PC's.

The WSU Community has the right to experience stress free use of their computers. Malwarebytes can prevent, detect, and remove malware, ransomware, possibly unwanted programs and many other types of malicious software from both Windows and macOS computers.

Malwarebytes:

  • protects users from online threats
  • provides the users malware protection from malware infested programs
  • helps with eradicating malicious programs that eats up space in the user's computer system
  • helps with enhancing the users PC performance for a faster and efficient computing experience

Performing a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes Free Version

Go to www.malwarebytes.org and click on Free Version Download. As soon as you've downloaded the installation file for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, open the file.

1. If prompted, click to allow the program to make changes to the computer.

2. Click through the installer to complete the installation process.

3. When the installation is finished, uncheck the box that says to Enable the free trial for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium, but keep the box checked that says to Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

4. When you are at the screen with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware finally running, select Scan Now.

5. If Malwarebytes Anti-Malware wants to update, please ensure you select Update Now before moving onto the scan. You may have to go back to the starting Malwarebytes Anti-Malware screen to select Scan Now again afterwards.

6. When your scan is finished, there will be a pop-up that lets you know if your scan has found malware or harmful non-malware objects in your computer.

7. Be sure to click Apply Actions to apply default actions (quarantining, etc.) for the files that show up in the detected items and ensure your computer's safety.

8. Depending on what was found, you may be prompted to reboot your computer. Your computer cannot finish cleaning until it reboots, so reboot as soon as you are prompted.

9. When you log back in, your malware scan is all finished!

Performing a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Business (Employees Only)

Faculty and staff computers include the WSU-managed, enterprise versions of both Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit.

Here are the steps to run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Right-click the Malwarebytes symbol in the bottom-right of your screen and select “Start Scanner”.

Click “Scan”. Note: This may take a while to complete depending on system configuration.

Once the scan is finished please navigate to the “Quarantine” tab.

Click “Delete All” to remove these malicious items.
