RSS Feeds Why Faculty Should Use them

Before the Session
Before the Session: This is a hands-on session, so please bring your laptop if possible. If you cannot bring a laptop, one will be provided for you. In order to get the most out of this session, we encourage you to create a Google email account. The two tools we will use during this session are Google Reader.
Google Reader is a tool that helps you aggregate RSS feed information into one space where you can begin to organize, manage, and track what your reading. The power of this web based aggregator is that you can pull all of your news and information content from any news or information source that has RSS feeds within their web site to one spot. In this session we will cover the basic steps of setting up an RSS feeds within Google Reader. We will look at RSS feeds from professional, news, teaching sources that are familiar (e.g. Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Education) to the more focused feeds from specific journals and professional organizations you belong to.
Following this session, you will be able to...
- Activate and use a basic RSS Feed Aggregator (i.e. with Google Reader)
- Setup RSS Feeds for sites that you wish to aggregate into one space to conduct your professional and personal reading.
- Track and report out your reading and sharing of resources with colleagues and students for assessment purposes.
