About this article

This article provides an overview of the features and functions of the Zoom web conferencing system. It is intended for all WSU students and employees interested in conducting or attending online meetings using Zoom.

Recording to your computer and to the cloud

Zoom supports recording meetings to both your local computer and to the cloud. Meetings that are recorded to your local computer are stored as an MP4 and are available for your use and/or editing. When you record to the cloud, the video, audio, and chat text are recorded in the Zoom cloud. The recording files can be downloaded to a computer or streamed from a browser.

Recording

Recording your Zoom meetings is easy.

To begin a recording...

  1. Click on the Record button in the toolbar on the bottom of the Zoom window.
  2. Select where the recording will be stored.
    1. Selecting Record on this Computer will store the video on your computer. These recordings are converted to MP4 files after the meeting closes and are stored in the Documents/Zoom folder.
    2. Selecting Record to the Cloud will store the recording in the cloud. You will receive an email when your cloud recording has been converted and stored.
  3. Record changes to Pause/Stop Recording and serves as the controls for stopping the recording.

Posting your recording to MediaSpace

Posting a recording from your local computer

Posting your locally-stored recordings is just like posting any other video in MediaSpace. Simply follow the instructions in the Uploading files to MediaSpace article in this Knowledge Base.

There are two things you need to remember:

  • Your video will be found in the Documents/Zoom folder.
  • Post the .MP4 file. (There will be several files in the folder. You only need the .MP4.)

Posting a recording stored in the cloud

Before you can upload a recording from the cloud into MediaSpace, you need to download it to the local computer.

From the Zoom website, ...

  1. Click in Recordings in the left column.
  2. Select the Cloud Recordings tab.
  3. Click on the name of the video you wish to download.
  4. Click the download button.

The video will be stored in your Downloads folder as a .MP4 file. You can then upload your video to MediSpace by following the steps in the Uploading files to MediaSpace article.
