Selecting the '''Screen''' recording option (Fig 1) in CaptureSpace Lite will allow you to record all of your computer screen activity, along with your voice if you choose to talk. While you are recording your screen, you can cancel, pause, and end the recording. You can also use drawing tools to annotate the screen. When you end the recording, CaptureSpace Lite allows you to trim the start and finish of the video, chop out segments, and add opening and closing titles. Finally, you can save the recording to the location on your computer that you specified in your recording settings and you can upload the video to your MediaSpace account.

About this article

This article includes instructions for using CaptureSpace Lite to record your screen. It is intended for all WSU students and employees.

What's the Screen recording option?

Selecting the Screen recording option (Fig 1) in CaptureSpace Lite will allow you to record all of your computer screen activity, along with your voice if you choose to talk.

Accessing your CaptureSpace Lite recording settings

Watch the Setting Up video for instructions on changing CaptureSpace Lite recording settings. To access your settings:

  1. Use your favorite web browser to login to your MediaSpace account at mediaspace.mnscu.edu using your Star ID username and password.
  2. Select CaptureSpace Lite from the Add New menu.
  3. In the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder window, select the Settings tab (Fig 1)

Tips on settings

  • When you make changes to your settings, make sure to select Save to retain them.
  • Increasing recording quality will also increase the size of the resulting file. Feel free to experiment, but you will probably not need a webcam or screen recording resolution setting higher than 720P.
  • Change the local media files storage location to a folder that is easier to find. The default folder is pretty buried.
  • Always retain a local copy of important files, even if they are uploaded to MediaSpace properly. In the case of large media files, you may need to store them on an external drive. Think twice before electing to auto-delete the local recordings after uploading to MediaSpace. Sometimes, things go wrong and your file is not uploaded properly. You are less likely to lose important files if you manage your local copies manually.
