About this article

This article describes how to use YouSeeU in a Brightspace course to create Visual Assignments and Virtual Classrooms. It is intended for instructors.

YouSeeU overview

From the Minnesota State D2L Support site:

Instructors can use the Virtual Classroom by YouSeeU integration to hold a virtual classroom session or set up video meetings with students. Instructors can choose to save your sessions and post them within Brightspace Learning Environment as a resource. Instructors can also use Video Assignments by YouSeeU to create video assignments, allowing students to respond to course materials, or do presentations remotely.

There are two main components to YouSeeU:

  • Virtual Classroom
  • Video Assignment

What are virtual classrooms and video assignments?

The Virtual Classroom can be used to hold a virtual classroom session or set up video meetings with students. Instructors can choose to save your sessions and post them within Brightspace.

Video Assignments create assignments with video instructions, allow students to respond to course materials, or do presentations remotely.

Whether you use virtual classrooms or video assignments, YouSeeU adds an interactive aspect to your course that reading cannot.

How do I access YouSeeU tools?

  • Click a drop-down menu in the course navbar (such as Communications), then click the Virtual Classroom link
  • Click a drop-down menu in the course navbar (such as Assessments), then click the Video Assignment link.

A brief overview of the YouSeeU/Brightspace integration

Using the Virtual Classroom

The Virtual Classroom supports Internet-based video conferencing. It includes many of the features you would expect in a video-conferencing tool: screen sharing, whiteboard, webcams, chat, and more. Sessions can be recorded and posted enabling students to review the materials at a later date or watch sessions they may have missed because of sickness or other reasons.

Because YouSeeU is integrated into Brightspace, sessions can be added to the Content as Quicklinks and entered from within the course itself.

Using Video Assignments

  • Individual video assignments enable students to record presentations and assignment responses and submit them for feedback.
  • In-class assignments are student presentations recorded by the teacher using a webcam. The teacher and fellow students can leave sync comments in the video as feedback to the presenter.
  • Sync activities are student-scheduled and student-conducted presentations where the audience gives feedback.
  • Question and answer authentic assessments begin with teacher-recorded questions. Students are given a set time limit to think and then must record their answer to the question within time constraints.
  • Video case response assignments begin with text-based questions to guide the thought process followed by a video-based case. Further questions are presented to promote critical thinking.
  • Conversation assignments are asynchronous discussions that are merged into a single video for submission.
  • Group project assignments are student-led and include project management and coordination. Group can be assigned by the teacher, filled through student enrollment, or assigned but he system based on student availability.
