Grades

Deleting grades is a bit of a special case. Since grade items can be associated with individual assignments, discussion topics, and quizzes, we need to treat grade-item deletion differently.

Grade item associated with a quiz.

In the image on the right, we clicked on Assessments, selected Grades, and then clicked the Manage Grades tab at the top of the page. That gave us a list of all the grade items. This particular grade item is associated with a quiz (as shown in the fourth column). That means that when the quiz is graded by Brightspace, the score is stored directly into this grade item. You can determine the quiz that holds the association by clicking the little circle with the "?" in it, just to the right of the word Quizzes.

Grade items that include that question-mark-in-a-circle icon cannot be deleted until the association is removed.

  • To remove an association with an Assignment, go to Assessments, select Assignments, click the arrow after the name of the assignment, and select Edit Assignment. Scroll down the Properties tab and change the grade item from the one you want to delete to None at the top of the pulldown menu. Optionally, deleting the assignment will also break the association.
  • To remove an association with a Discussion, go to Communication, select Discussions, click the arrow after the name of the topic, and select Edit Topic. Select the Assessments tab and change the grade item from the one you want to delete to Choose a grade item at the top of the pulldown menu. Optionally, deleting the topic will also break the association.
  • To remove an association with a Quiz, go to Assessments, select Quizzes, click the arrow after the name of the quiz, and select Edit. Click on the Assessment tab and change the grade item from the one you want to delete to None at the top of the pulldown menu. Optionally, deleting the quiz will also break the association.

Once the grade items are not associated with any other elements, they can be deleted as follows:

  1. Click on Assessments in the main navigation bar and select Grades.
  2. Click on the Manage Grades tab.
  3. Click the More Actions button and select the grades you wish to delete. (Items that are still associated with assessable entities are grayed out on this list and cannot be selected.)
    1. Click on the checkbox at the top of the first column to select all of the grade items, OR
