  • Mac Users, Do Not Upgrade to Big Sur Quite Yet - Please do not upgrade to Big Sur until we can test and ensure access to WSU resources will not be interrupted by upgrading.
  • 03-29-2021: Zoom Client Minor Update to 5.6.1 - This is a minor bugfix update. Review the release notes and instructions for updating your Zoom client.
  • 03-23-2021: Zoom Client Update to 5.6.0 - In addition to bug fixes, this release allows hosts to restrict session access to those signed in to Zoom using their StarID credentials. Users can also share the clipboard in remote control. Review the release notes and instructions for updating your Zoom client.
  • 03-18-2021: D2L Brightspace Upgraded to 20.21.03 When copied, individual Assignment folders and individual Quizzes are hidden from students by default. The Brightspace Pulse mobile app sends push notifications to students two days before the due date or end date for upcoming quizzes and assignment folders.   • 03-07-2021: Zoom MacOS Client Minor Update to 5.5.5 - This is a minor bugfix released for macOS. Review the release notes and instructions for updating your Zoom client.

Getting a New Laptop?

April Pro Tip - Looking Good on Zoom

Before the meeting

  1. Find a stable spot for your laptop or phone, other than your lap, so your camera doesn't jiggle.
  2. Preferably sit without a window behind you so we can see your face and so the camera can focus well without the shifts between the bright window and you when you move.
  3. Tell your meeting organizer if there is a reason why you can’t be recorded.
  4. Feel free to arrive early to check your audio and video before the official meeting starts.
  5. Comb your hair to look awake and brush your teeth to wake up your smile before the meeting.
  6. Keep your earbuds with a microphone nearby since they help reduce background noise.

During the meeting

  1. Mute when you are not speaking.
  2. Turning your video off and just using audio will conserve bandwidth on your network for others (e.g., roommates, family) to use.
  3. Using lots of hand gestures in front of the camera will slow down the video.
  4. Use chat to ask questions.
  5. Give a thumbs up when asked if you can hear.
  6. Silence your phone.
  7. Speak a little more slowly than usual for more clarity.

Faculty Spring Wrap Up

If you used Brightspace to support any of your courses this term:

  1. Release your final course grades. If you want your students to see their final grades in Brightspace, you must release them. Remember, these are not official grades and you still need to submit those using the Minnesota State Faculty eServices online form.
  2. Prepare final course grades for Minnesota State import. If you want to import your final course grades from Brightspace to the Minnesota State eServices site, rather than entering them manually, you must first convert them into an approved letter format.
  3. Back up your courses. Now is a great time to create a backup copy of this semester's courses.

April Teacher's Corner

Consider setting up some custom student support for your courses this summer. TLT will work with you to find the best tools for your specific activities and ensure that these tools are supported fully throughout the term. We also deliver effective and timely technology training for your students designed to meet the specifications of your activity, removing that responsibility from your shoulders. This might include online training, hands-on training sessions held either during or outside class time, just-in-time technical support or some combination of training options.
