Installation
Software Installation -> (Look for the Tableau as in picture below. Check it and Install it)
For mac it looks like below.. INSERT IMAGE HERE For Windows, INSERT IMAGE HERE
Follow the installation procedures like you would for any other software from WSU software additions
Procedures for Tableau Installation: INSERT IMAGE HERE
-> Click Continue INSERT IMAGE HERE
Read the Agreement and Click 'Continue' and 'Agree' on the window when it pops up. INSERT IMAGE HERE
Now, Make sure you have required Space on your machine. And INSERT IMAGE HERE
This will Install the tableau on your machine.
Open Tableau
2) Connecting your data:
Data depends on your file format(aka extension). For example if you have excel spreadsheet. Click Excel ->> Select the .xlsx file. If it is a .csv file, you need to connect as a Text file. INSERT IMAGE HERE
For example, I opened a .csv file in tableau for Connect. This is the preview,
INSERT IMAGE HERE
> Please inspect your data if it's properly connected or not.
Now, Go to Sheet 1 as Highlighted orange in the screenshot above. After you click sheet1. Here is the preview of the sheet 1 window. Now we can start visualizations

Basic of Visualizations:
Before Actually creating awesome visualization we need to know at least about Measures, Dimensions,Fields and certain grammer of graphics like shapes, sizes, relative layouts, co-ordinate system, hue, density etc. Below are the resources that can be useful to understand the tableau Vocabulary (Excerpted from Silas Bergen's Course Page: DSCI 310 )
Before we investigate this view, a few important facts about
Tableau vocabulary:
“Fields" are what Tableau calls “Variables.”
For example: Country; Population; Year
...these are all “Fields”in Tableau-speak.
Discrete vs Continuous
Discrete fields will lead to HEADERS, or DISCRETE BINS. Discrete fields, and their pills, are BLUE.
Continuous fields will lead to CONTINUOUS AXES. Continuous
fields, and their pills, are GREEN
Dimensions vs Measures
Dimensions are NOT AGGREGATED.
Measures are fields that by default are AGGREGATED when visualized (summed,
averaged). It makes sense to perform arithmetic operations
on measures, but not on
dimensions.

Tableau is super useful for visualizing all sorts of the datasets. Below are the resources to consult if you want to make a basic scatterplot onto a map or any sort of map based visualization.

After you've completed the basics , you can dig into the tutorial from Tableau official documentation about making Maps in Tableau.
