About this article

This article includes information about OneNote notebook access during our upcoming migration of our email, OneDrive for Business, and other Microsoft Office 365 cloud services to the Minnesota State system on Friday, July 21st. It is intended for any member of the WSU community who uses OneNote or OneNote Classroom notebooks.

The essentials

There will be a scheduled outage

You will have no access to any OneNote notebook saved to your OneDrive in the cloud from Friday, July 21st, at noon until 7:30 AM, Monday, July 24th. PC users will continue to have access to notebooks they created on their laptop or desktop hard drives.

You will have limited access prior to the outage

Most OneNote notebooks are stored on your OneDrive for Business. Because we need to migrate so many OneDrives, we will begin copying them to the new system location before Friday, July 21st. Changes that you make to your OneNote notebooks stored on your OneDrive may not be replicated to your new notebooks on your new OneDrive once that copy process starts. Although you can still access your notebooks, do not edit notebook pages during this time. We will begin copying OneDrives on the following dates:

  • Students: 7:30 AM on Monday, July 10th
  • Employees: 7:30 AM on Monday, July 17th

We may not be done copying OneDrives by July 24th

We are confident that we have allowed enough time to copy all student and employee OneDrives in the timeframe specified. However, the rate at which we can copy OneDrives depends on how much data people have stored in them, which can vary right up until the time we start the copy process. There is a chance that we will not finish copying all of the OneDrives by 7:30 AM on Monday, July 24th. Since you won't be able to access your old OneDrive after this date, you may not have any access to any of the OneNote notebooks you have stored in your OneDrive for Business in the cloud until after your OneDrive has been copied. We will keep you posted on our progress copying OneDrives and our estimate of any additional time needed on this and other Microsoft Office 365 migration wiki articles.
