- If an app is unresponsive but the system seems to respond to button presses, you can force the app to close:
- Double-click the Home button.
- Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
- Swipe the app's preview up to close it.
- If that doesn’t work hold the home and sleep/wake button down for 15 seconds, this will restart the device.
Once the iPad starts back up, double-click the home button to open up the multitasking launcher and close out of all apps that are open.
Reopen the app that was having the issue.
- If that doesn’t work, delete the app and then reinstall it from the app store.
- When you don’t have the passcode for the iPad, the only thing that can be done is to reset the iPad using iTunes. This will erase all settings and information and restore the iPad to stock defaults.
- To begin turn off the iPad completely by holding the power button until the “slide to power off” message appears at the top of the screen. Slide the slider to the right to power off the iPad.
- Open the iTunes program on your laptop.
- With the iPad powered down, hold the home button on the iPad as you plug it into your laptop. Continue to hold the home button until this screen appears.
- iTunes will display this message when the iPad is connected. Click OK.
- Click the Restore iPad Button.
- Click the Restore and Update button. Remember, this will erase ALL settings and info on your iPad!
- If either of these screens appears, press Next or Agree to continue.
- This screen will be shown on the iPad while it is restoring. This will take several minutes.
- When the restore is almost complete, iTunes will show this window. You can either ignore it or press OK.
- When this screen appears on iTunes, the restore is finished, and you can set up the iPad using the instructions for first time setup of an iPad.
- If an application gets stuck while downloading first select the “Settings” application and check to see if your device is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Make sure the Wi-Fi slider is turned on, and you are connected to “Warrior” or any other Wi-Fi network.
- After checking to make sure your Wi-Fi is connected you can also go to “General” and click the “About” option.
- From here, make sure that your iPad has space open by looking at the “Capacity” and “Available” options.
- After going through those settings, you can check to make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi by clicking on the “Safari” application.
- After clicking on the “Safari” application, you should be able to type any site into the search bar and it should appear. The example shows www.winona.edu.
- After using Safari to ensure your Wi-Fi is working, click the stuck application again.
- If the application still doesn’t proceed any further through the download, click and hold the application. When the application starts to wiggle click the X button in the top left corner.
- After you have deleted the application, you should restart your iPad by holding the sleep/wake button down until the power off slider appears, then slide to power it off. After it’s shut down, turn the iPad on by holding the sleep/wake button. After it is completely turned back on, try to proceed with the download again.
- If your iPad is unresponsive to your touch, then you may try a hard reset on your device. A hard reset will not erase any data from your iPad.
- To reset your iPad, hold the sleep/wake button and home button. Keep holding until the iPad turns off and the Apple logo is visible.
- Give the device a few moments to restart, then try using the touchscreen again.
- If your iPad is still unresponsive, please bring your device to the Technical Support Center.
- Open up the settings app.
- Select the Wi-Fi tab and click on the blue circled “i” next to the Wi-Fi icon located beside the warrior network.
- Turn OFF the Auto-Join option (the slider should be gray when it is OFF).
- Navigate back to the Wi-Fi page and select Other… under “Choose a Network”.
- Under the Name field type warrior, then select the security field.
- Under the Security field select WPA2 Enterprise then go back to the previous screen by clicking “Other Network”.
- Enter in your current username and password (the same ones you use for D2L), then click Join.
- After your iPad connects to warrior, re-select the circled blue “i” and turn Auto-Join back on by swiping the switch next to it (the swiped bar should be green if it is on). Now you are DONE!
- Close out of Safari from the multi-tasking menu. To do this, double-click the home button and swipe the Safari page up. This will close Safari.
- Reopen Safari and attempt to load the website. If this still does not work then proceed to the next step.
- Check to make sure Wi-Fi is connected by going to the Wi-Fi section in Settings.
- If you are connected to Wi-Fi, re-open Safari and if this does not remedy the problem then restart the iPad by holding down the sleep/wake button.
- Open Settings menu.
- Choose the General tab and then select Siri.
- Opening Siri takes you to the screen below. Make sure Siri is turned on, signified by the green slider bar on the right side of the Siri bar. If not on, swipe the circle right to turn it on.
- Navigate back to the home screen.
- Hold the Home button (button with a square on it located at the bottom of the iPad). The screen below will pop up. Speak loudly and clearly asking Siri a question or making a request.
- Example: Asking what the weather is like.
- Example: Asking to set an alarm a set amount of time in the future.
- A common cause of poor battery life is having too many apps open that are still using battery power.
- Double Click the home button and a screen like the one below will display your open apps. Swipe up on the app(s) and it will close it. Do this for all open apps.
- Alternatively, you can try to reboot the iPad to see if this may help remedy the problem. To reboot the iPad simply press and hold the home button and sleep/wake button until the iPad resets.
- Always make sure your software is up to date as well. iOS updates frequently contain performance improvements that can address basic problems with your iPad.
- Open up Settings
- Select General. Locate the “Use Side Switch To” settings. If mute has a check next to it continue to the next step. Otherwise go to the last step.
- Go back to the home screen, and swipe up on the control bar on the bottom.
- The control panel will come up. You should notice a small screen lock button located in the control panel. If it’s white the screen is locked into position. Tap it to unlock and allow screen rotation. Once you have the screen oriented how you want, tap it again and it will turn white to signify it’s locked in its current position.
- If Lock Rotation had a check next to it in Settings the switch on the upper right of the iPad will toggle the screen lock. Pulling the switch down locks the screen into position. Pushing it back up will unlock the screen and allow it to rotate. Once configured how you want it, lock the screen by pulling the switch down again. When the switch is down a red dot will be visible on the switch.
- First, open up the settings application.
- Next, slide the Wi-Fi bar off so that your Wi-Fi is turned off. After waiting a few seconds slide the bar back to the right to turn it back on. Wi-Fi should automatically connect to warrior.
- If your Wi-Fi is still not connecting correctly, navigate from the Wi-Fi tab over to the General tab, still in your Settings app. At the very bottom is a reset option, click that.
- Select Reset Network Settings.
- Press Reset again at this screen.
- Go back to the Wi-Fi tab under your Settings app and deselect the “Ask to Join Networks” option.
- Next select the “Other” option under Choose a Network. For the network name, type in warrior and for security select the “WPA2 Enterprise” option. Once you navigate back to the “Other Network” screen it will ask for your username and password. Here you will need to type in your username for WSU and your WSU password. Click join once you have these fields filled.
- Once this certificate pops up accept it and your Wi-Fi will turn back on.
- After your iPad connects to warrior, re-select the circled blue “i” and swipe the Auto-Join option back to the right so that it is turned back on. After this you are done!
