About this article
This article includes the steps involved in installing the SMART Notebook software. It is intended for all WSU students and instructors interested in using a SMART interactive display.
Mac installation
- Browse to the SMART Notebook download page.
- Select the Get Started button in the Access your SMART Learning Suite Subscription rectangle.
- Select "No" to the request for emails. Select the Download button, select a location for the file, and the download process should begin.
- Depending on the browser you are using, you might access the saved file in different ways, However you do it, just double-click the smart19-1web.dmg file to start the installation process. Then double-click the SMART Education Software Installer icon.
- Select Continue to determine whether the program can be installed
- Select Continue to start the installer
- Select Continue to accept the license agreement and then select Agree.
- Uncheck the "Help SMART the software..." checkbox and select Continue
- Install all of the selected tools by pressing Continue
- Accept the default install location and select Install. You will need to enter your StarID password to begin the installation. The installation takes several minutes. Wait until it indicates that it's complete. You can then close the installation window.
- Select Move to Trash to delete the installer file.
- The Smart Product Update window should open. If it doesn't, select the SMART Board icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen and select Check for Updates and Activation from the menu.
- Select the Activate button to the right of SMART Notebook. Enter the activation code provided by your instructor. Select Finish.
- Close the Smart Product Update window if it has not closed automatically.
PC Installation
- Browse to the SMART Notebook download page.
- Select the Get Started button in the Access your SMART Learning Suite Subscription rectangle.
- Select "No" to the request for emails. Select the Download button, select a location for the file, and the download process should begin.
- Depending on the browser you are using, you might access the saved file in different ways, However you do it, just double-click the smart19-1web.exe file to start the installation process.
- Read terms of use and then check "I have read and accept the terms of use"
- Select Next to install the standard set of tools
- The Smart Product Update window should open. If it doesn't, select the SMART Board icon in the system tray the bottom of your screen and select Check for Updates and Activation from the menu.
- Select the Activate button to the right of SMART Notebook. Enter the activation code provided by your instructor. Select Finish.
- Close the Smart Product Update window if it has not closed automatically.
Install Wrapper errors
In some cases, PCs will not install the SMART Notebook and will instead error with the following message: "SMART Install Wrapper has stopped working." If you encounter this error, follow these steps and then try the installation again: HP Wacom Driver Update
Go To HP support sight by opening a web browser and searching : HP Wacom Driver https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elite-x2-1012-g1/8741943
- Once on HP’s support sight look under Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices.
- Go to Wacom AES Digitizer Driver and Click Download tab to the right
- Save the sp80842 .exe file to your downloads folder
- Open downloads folder and double click the .exe file you just saved and let it run
- Accept user agreement and Next, Next, Finnish
- Restart Machine
- Then Install Smart Notebook as per instructions given by your instructor.

Checking for updates
- You will now notice a new icon at the top of your screen. Select it.
- Update the SMART Lab component if it needs to be updated.
- Close the SMART Product Update window.
