Instructors teaching fully in-person, blended, or mostly online courses this fall should revise their policies and guidelines regarding meetings with students outside of class time. These sample outside interactions syllabus statements can be copied, pasted, and edited without permission or attribution.

Statement 1: General statement about availability

Although we will need to interact a bit differently this semester, I am available for meetings and questions outside of class time.

Statement 2: Open meetings in your office

My [office/advising] hours for this semester are [list hours]. This time is open for anyone to visit with me in my campus office at [office location]. You do not need to make an appointment. There is enough room in my office for us to maintain a three-foot physical distance, but please wear a face covering. If I am with another student when you arrive, please wait or return later.

Statement 3: Scheduled meetings in your office

My [office/advising] hours for this semester are [list hours]. You can schedule an appointment with me during this time by [describe scheduling procedure]. Please arrive on time at my campus office at [office location]. There is enough room in my office for us to maintain a three-foot physical distance, but please wear a face covering. If I am with another student when you arrive, please wait or return later. You may cancel or reschedule the meeting by [describe scheduling procedure].

If I am working with another student, you may need to wait until I admit you to the Zoom meeting. I will be able to see you waiting, so please be patient and I will either admit you or message you as soon as possible. In order to enter the meeting, you must be signed in to Zoom using your StarID username and password. Instructions for StarID sign in can be found here: https://learn.winona.edu/Sign_in_to_Zoom_using_your_StarID. Statement 10: Questions before and after class

I would be happy to respond to your questions before and after class meetings as time permits. In order to do this safely, please remain seated and raise your hand to ask a question. If you would like to talk privately, please contact me online to schedule an appointment or visit me during office hours.

Statement 10: Informal meetings permitted

Do not hesitate to approach me if you see me on campus and have a question or want to talk. Please maintain a three-foot physical distance and wear a face covering.

Statement 11: Informal meetings restricted

I look forward to seeing you on campus, getting to know you, and interacting with you informally. However, I will be minimizing my informal, in-person campus contact with students this semester out of concern for our mutual safety. If you would like to talk with me, please contact me online to schedule an appointment or visit me during office hours.
