Rise Vision is the third-party web service WSU uses to manage our campus digital signage content. Local content managers upload content to Rise Vision's cloud storage, organize it into presentations and playlists, and assign those playlists to various displays. Rise Vision allows us to control what content appears when and for how long on each display. Only content managers with WSU Rise Vision accounts can access this service.

Overview

Once signed in, managing content in Rise Vision typically involves the following steps:

  1. Upload content: Begin by uploading your content to Rise Vision's cloud storage space. This often includes images or short videos formatted to fit a widescreen display. Content is created outside of Rise Vision and WSU offers several authoring tools for you to use (e.g., PowerPoint, Adobe Express). While Canva is integrated with Rise Vision, WSU does not support Canva currently. Use it at your own risk.
  2. Create or edit presentations: To display your uploaded content, you must first add it to one of Rise Vision's prebuilt presentation templates. For example, the "Image Full Screen" template allows you to add one or more of your images to the presentation that will play one after the other, like a slideshow. The "Video Full Screen" template allows you to create a presentation that includes one or more video files. Existing presentations can be modified (e.g., remove or replace images) at any time.
  3. Create or edit schedules: Once you have created your presentations, you must organize them into a Rise Vision schedule. Although some schedules only include one presentation, think of them as playlists of presentations. A schedule allows you to display multiple presentations and schedule some or all of the presentations to play during a certain timeframe. Schedules can be modified (e.g., remove or replace presentations) at any time.
  4. Assign schedules to displays: Rise Vision allows you to assign a single schedule to a display under your control. You can assign the same schedule to multiple displays or different schedules to different displays. You can change the schedule assigned to a display at any time.

Content

Content submitted for display on the WSU digital signage system should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Allowable image file types include JPEG and PNG in widescreen, 16x9 format. The standard resolution is 1920x1080 pixels.
  • Allowable video file types include MPEG, MOV, and MP4. Videos should be no longer than 60 seconds and do not require audio (most displays are configured to mute audio). Small file size is critical for quality playback. The smaller and more web-friendly the file, the better. If you have questions about video compression, contact TLT (tlt@winona.edu)
  • Do not use content with a solid red background. This is reserved for emergency communications only.
  • The WSU digital signage system is intended for internal use only. It cannot be used to advertise or promote external, third-party products, groups, or organizations exclusively. We cannot sell digital signage services to external customers. Direct all related questions to WSU Legal Affairs.
  • Don't break copywrite law. Do not use content that you do not own, have permission from the owner to copy, or that's not licensed for open, shared use. If you have any questions regarding copyright issues, contact TLT (tlt@winona.edu) or your Library Liasion.
