This article provides a description of the TLT program New2WSU. This article is intended for new faculty and teaching staff looking to take advantage of the way our eWarrior programming can support student learning in your classes and beyond.
New2WSU Program Overview
The New2WSU course is a yearlong course intended for any new instructor or staff who supports learning in our courses. Our programming is designed to introduce and develop instructor skills with key systems utilized across campus in support of student success. New2WSU programming prepares instructors for the first day of class, serves as a guide for the many support systems we have in place for instructors and your students, and should be thought of as resources for surviving your first few semesters.
New2WSU Modules
Module 1: Preparing For Classes
This module provides an introduction to the eWarrior program and the systems in place designed to support instructors as they prepare for the first day of class.
Module 2: Communicating With Students
Timely and effective communication is often key to student success and this module addresses a number of key tools and classroom management resources we have available for instructors.
Module 3: Transparent Assessment
New instructors often report feeling overwhelmed with the amount of grading they face during their first terms. This module covers many tools we have at our fingertips that can improve student understanding of assignments and reduce grading time.
Module 4: Mid-Semester Assessment
The Mid-Semester Assessment program is a unique collaborative model where instructors work with colleagues to build an assessment designed to solicit feedback on specific student learning experiences in middle of the course, when there is still time for adjustments. In this module instructors will learn about the process of participating in a Mid-Semester Assessment and the impact other instructors have made from participating in this process.
Module 5: Safe Computing and Appropriate Use of Technologies
Just because we have these powerful tools doesn't mean we are immune from the many challenges of working in an environment with viruses and malicious software. This module introduces different measures instructors can take to protect themselves from these threats and best practices to prepare our students for these same challenges.
Module 6: Introduction to Advising
While comprehensive advising training for advising is typically done at the department level this unit gives instructors a taste of the different people and systems we have available to support you as you begin learning about advising students.
Module 7: Professional Development
This topic is designed to help instructors chart their next steps towards meaningful instructional strategies and instructional technologies they are looking to adopt. Therefore, our programming here is individualized to your own professional development objectives.
