Using Quick Eval for assessment
Intended Audience
This article is intended for instructors interested in using Brightspace Quick Eval tool to quickly access student submissions that require assessment.
Overview
Quick Eval allows evaluators (instructors, teaching assistants, and so on) to see a list of unevaluated learner submissions from all their courses. Submissions from Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions are displayed in one location to improve efficiency when locating work that requires evaluation and providing feedback to learners.
Accessing the Quick Eval tool
The Quick Eval tool is designed to give the assessor an overview of all the active courses in which the assessor is enrolled. So, because it is a Brightspace-wide overview of what needs to be assessed, the tool is found on the Brightspace homepage.
From the Brightspace homepage, click the Quick Eval link in the main navigation bar. You will be presented with the Quick Eval screen containing all of the submissions that need to be assessed. (Give it a moment to process, it has to look in each of your classes for submissions.) You will see a screen similar to the one shown below.
To assess student submissions, click on the student's name in the first column. Brightspace will provide you with the proper assessment screen to complete the task. After you complete the assessment of the first submission, click the < Back to Quick Eval link in the top right corner of the window to return to the Quick Eval tool to select the next submission to assess.
Filtering the Quick Eval content
If you would like to shorten the list of submissions, Quick Eval supports filtering and searching. (There is information on doing searches within Quick Eval in the #Searching the Quick Eval content just down the page.)
To filter the content of the Quick Eval tool, click Filter at the top right of the window. You will be presented with a pop-up menu that lets you filter by Activity Name, Course, and Submission Date.
Clicking any of the filters will cause the pop-up to display the legal values for that filter.
- Activity Name shows a list of all activities (submissions) Quick Eval found.
- Course displays all of the courses in the main window. It is important to remember that these are only courses that are marked as Active and have not passed the End Date.
- Date shows four options: "Last 24 hours," "Last 48 hours," "Last 7 days," and "Older than 7 days."
Choose the filters you wish to apply. Quick Eval treats your filter selections as Boolean "OR's" so the results of the filter will contain anything from the larger list that fits any one of the filters you chose.
Searching the Quick Eval content
The search allows the teacher to shorten the list by specifying search criteria that must be satisfied before a given submission will be displayed.
You can search the list of submissions by entering any of the following into the Search box in the top right corner of the page:
- A specific student name or part of a student name
- A specific activity name or part of a activity name
- A specific course name or part of a course name
Choose the search criteria you wish to apply. Similar to the Filter above, Quick Eval treats your search selections as Boolean "OR's" so the results of the search will contain anything from the larger list that fits any one of the search parameters you chose.
