Creative Commons Licenses are free copyright agreements that allow any individual to publish and maintain creative possession of their own original materials (examples: videos, writings, etc.) while allowing others specific levels of access and use. For example, a musician could secure their own copyright for their music, but allow others to remix their songs with GarageBand (Mac) and distribute them as long as they shared them without commercial interest.
Many artists, journalists, and publishers of all kinds have used CC licenses for their works with great degrees of success; this has included Wikipedia, Al Jazeera, and the United States White House Government website.
