This employee technology orientation is intended for Winona State University faculty and staff who are unfamiliar with the basics of using the major technological systems and services available to all employees. This includes Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud applications, D2L Brightspace, Zoom, and Kaltura MediaSpace.

Before you begin using the many digital tools and services that WSU has to offer, let's make sure you have the basic access and information you need.

Your WSU identity

StarID

Every Minnesota State employee is assigned a unique, 8-character identification code called a StarID. Each StarID begins and ends with two letters, with four numbers in between (e.g., ab1234dc). You use your StarID as a username to sign in to some system-wide services, such as Zoom, D2L Brightspace, and Kaltura MediaSpace.

Warrior ID

Winona State University assigns a unique 8-digit identifier called a Warrior ID to every university employee. You may also hear this referred to as your, "Tech ID." It's printed on the front of your Warrior ID Card and is used for internal tracking purposes primarily. You can also use it to reset your StarID password.

PALS ID

A unique 14-digit identifier that you use to access some library services. You might also hear this referred to as your "library barcode". You can also use it to reset your StarID password.

Title

Every employee's job title is assigned automatically and displayed in various locations, along with other identifying information. Every employee is assigned to a physical campus location for the purpose of mail delivery and wayfinding. This may be a private office, a shared office space, or a departmental office. Your assigned location is listed in the campus directory.

Your WSU credentials

Warrior ID Card

A physical card that you receive from the Campus Card office on the Winona campus when you begin your employment with Winona State University. It includes both your Warrior ID, printed on the front of the card, and your PALS ID, printed on the back. Equipped with a magnetic stripe, you can use your Warrior ID to open locked doors, check out books at campus libraries, and make some campus purchases (e.g., snacks, food, printing, bookstore).
