Teaching with Technology is a facilitated, 3-week course designed for instructors interested in mastering the fundamentals of supported instructional technology as quickly and efficiently as possible. This action-oriented course will get you up and running with the tools of the trade (e.g., Brightspace, Zoom, Teams, MediaSpace) and is perfect for new instructors with little to no experience with these tools. By the end of the course, you will be comfortable supporting basic, technology-enabled teaching activities in courses of all formats. Course format

  • Teaching with Technology is a 3-week course facilitated by a team of experienced, professional instructional designers and technicians from WSU's Teaching, Learning, and Technology Services (TLT) team.
  • The course is delivered in an online asynchronous format. Although there are no required class meetings, there are opportunities to interact with colleagues and class facilitators.
  • The course is taught in a "boot camp" style and focuses almost exclusively on basic instructional technology usage.
  • Participants move through checklists of basic technical skills rapidly, stopping to focus on unfamiliar skills.
  • The instructional tools covered in this course can all be used to support any mode of course delivery and instructors teaching in-person courses are encouraged to participate.
  • Participants should expect to spend about 5 hours per week on course-related activities.
  • D2L Brightspace is used to manage the course, and Zoom is used for web conferencing. Participants gain experience using other approved and fully-supported tools they might decide to use in their own courses.
  • Participants who complete all of the course requirements receive a certificate of completion and a portable digital badge that they can display online (e.g., on LinkedIn).
