What Redshelf does

RedShelf is a supplier of electronic textbooks. With over a million titles, RedShelf offers a wide variety of content and easy integration into Brightspace courses.

Integrating RedShelf into your course

In December, 2021, RedShelf updated their interface from LTI 1.1 to LTI 1.3 (also known as LTI Advantage). If your course has used RedShelf prior to 2022, you will need to rebuild your links. (For more information on LTI's, refer to this Learning Tools Interoperability article.)

To add RedShelf content to your course, contact the WSU Bookstore. They will work with you and the RedShelf rep to begin the integration process.

Once you have notified the Bookstore and RedShelf has prepped for your course, follow these steps to integrate the content into your cour

Target location
Tell RedShelf what content to display.
  1. Select Materials from the main course-navigation bar and click on Content.
  2. Navigate to the Content Module that will contain the RedShelf content in the Table of Contents.
  3. Click on Existing Activities and select RedShelf from the pop-up menu. (If you have not previously contacted the Bookstore and RedShelf, RedShelf will not appear in your menu.
  4. Specify what type of content link you prefer for your course.
    • Selecting the RedShelf "My Courses" button inserts a link to a list of all of the student's courses in RedShelf, letting the student then navigate to the proper content.
    • Selecting the RedShelf Course Materials button allows the instructor to add a deep link into RedShelf that only shows the student the particular piece of content deemed as appropriate to the course materials. If you choose this option, there is less chance for the students to look at the wrong content but you may need to insert multiple links in your course to cover all of the content.
  5. Follow the prompts that correspond to the selection you chose.
