Schedule Brightspace announcements to appear and disappear automatically. Set announcements to appear on a specified date and time. Hide announcements from students after a specified date and time elapses, but retain them for reuse.

Manual, scheduled, and conditional release

Brightspace announcements can be published by the instructor to the course homepage manually at any time. Instructors can also schedule announcements to be displayed after and/or before a certain date and time. Finally, announcements can be set to display only after a student meets certain conditions (e.g., completes a quiz, submits an assignment).

Availability defaults

When editing an announcement, the Always show start date checkbox is checked (Fig 1.1) and the current date and time are displayed in the Start Date fields (Fig 1.2) by default. End Date is disabled (Fig 1.3), meaning the announcement will remain on your homepage until dismissed, deleted, or the maximum number of displayed announcements is exceeded.

Set start and end dates

Start date

  1. Open your announcement in edit mode.
  2. Leave the defaults or select each field to pick a new start date (Fig 2) and time (Fig 3). You can also enter a specific time manually. Select the Now button to reset the Start Date to the current date and time.
  3. Select the Publish, Save as Draft, or Update button to save your changes.

End date

Setting an End Date will hide the announcement from students when the date and time elapse, but instructors will still be able to edit the announcement.

  1. Open your announcement in edit mode.
  2. Check the remove the announcement based on the end date checkbox.
  3. Select the Now button to set the End Date to the current date and time or select each field to pick a new end date and time. You can also enter a specific time manually.
  4. Select the Publish, Save as Draft, or Update button to save your changes.
