This article is a guide on steps you need to do to upgrade or purchase a new desktop computer for your department. It is intended for all employees.

Desktop computer operating system requirements

In an effort to upgrade our desktop computers, we are announcing that we would like to have all systems (desktops and laptops) upgraded to Windows 10 by the end of June 2018.  While Microsoft will continue support for Windows 7 through 2020. Windows 10 provides enhanced functionality and better performance for our campus users, and allows us to continue improving our security posture.  This may require some departments to upgrade their hardware to accommodate the Windows 10 operating system. If you have a desktop and are unsure if it meets the hardware requirements needed to run Windows 10, please contact TechSupport.  

How to back up your data

You are responsible for backing up your own computer prior to receiving a new desktop. You will also need to wipe or erase all of your personal information from your computer.

Employee backup support is also available from both the TLT (employees) by appointment.

Get to know your device and get work-functional

After you receive your new computer there may still be a few setup steps you will need to do. For example, you may need to connect to a campus printer reinstall programs from the control panel. Restore your data and applications

You complete this step on your own, but employees are encouraged to setup a time with TLT tlt@winona.edu) if you would like help organizing your data when you restore it and students should contact Technical Support (AskTech@winona.edu) with any questions. The articles:
